Speed and scale aren't a trade-off. Treating them as one is the mistake.

The usual story says you move fast and clean it up later, or you build for scale and ship next year. We reject the premise. The same instincts that let you ship in weeks, knowing exactly which corners are safe to cut, are what let the system hold when the load arrives.

Decades on search, ranking, and distributed systems taught us where the failure modes live. So we build for the 99th percentile from day one, and we still ship fast, because we have already made these mistakes on systems far bigger than yours.
